The SOOS/WCRP/ESA workshop on Southern Ocean air-sea fluxes to be held in Frascati, Italy, 21-23 September, 2015. The workshop will have both poster and oral presentations, and is open to interested participants.
The workshop is motivated by a goal to improve air-sea flux estimates in the Southern Ocean and Antarctic marginal seas, though the issues addressed in the workshop will also have a global reach. We anticipate a 5-part agenda:
1. Science applications for air-sea flux estimates.
2. A brief review of challenges associated with existing flux products
Arctic and Antarctic weather and climate prediction and predictability issues are high up on the polar (research) communities' agenda. A vast amount of information is available in different media. To help connect sending and receiving parties, a dedicated electronic mailing list tailored to people interested in Arctic and Antarctic prediction and predictability is being set up. We will strive to keep you informed about upcoming events, recent findings, new papers and developments.
The Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observations and Modeling (SOCCOM) program is a six-year initiative funded by the National Science Foundation’s Division of Polar Programs and headquartered at Princeton University.
The project was launched in September 2014 with an initial commitment of $3.5 million per year over 6 years ($21 million dollars total).
