The fifth regular telecon in 2021 of CLIVAR/CliC/SCAR Southern Ocean Region Panel (SORP) was held at 7^th July.

During the telecon, the SOOS liaison, the activity updates, the Southern Ocean UN Decade, and the 14^th session of SORP panel were discussed. The main outcomes are as follows:

According to the original projection of CMIP5 models, the extreme El Niño would increase twice in the future. By removing the net impacts from the models’ 13 systematic biases, Prof. Luo and his research team (Tang et al., 2021) found that the extreme El Niño frequency would remain almost unchanged in the future.

The CLIVAR ENSO metrics package - a community-wide effort led by the CLIVAR Pacific Region Panel, in close collaboration with PCMDI, IPSL/LOCEAN, and NOAA - was developed to evaluate ENSO variability, teleconnections, and processes in climate models.

The Tropical Pacific Decadal Variability Working Group (TPDV WG), coordinated by the Pacific Region Panel, organised its 2nd telecon on 28 June 2021. Twenty TPDV WG members participated in the telecon.

The 5^th Session of the CLIVAR Climate Dynamics Panel (CDP-5) was organized virtually, spanning from late May to late June.

The WCRP Secretariat and IPOs telecon was organised on 14 July 2021, with the participation of representatives from WCRP Secretariat, CORA, and International Project Offices of CLIVAR, GEWEX, S2S, Monsoon and YESS.
