CLIVAR and PICES have had demonstrated long-time successful interdisciplinary cooperation, through the cooperation of several PICES Working Groups (WGs).

The 3rd Summer School on Tropical Oceans, ENSO and their teleconnections took place at the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy, during July 18-29, 2022.

The CLIVAR Pacific Region Panel (PRP) held a telecon on 2 June 2022, mainly for sharing updates on various activities by PRP members, discussing the SSG feedback to the PRP annual report and the possible options for the next PRP in-person meeting.

The 3rd Summer School on Theory, Mechanisms and Hierarchical Modeling of Climate Dynamics: Tropical Oceans, ENSO and their teleconnections, will be organized at ICTP, Trieste, Italy from 18 - 29 July 2022 in a hybrid format. Register here.

NPOCE, a CLIVAR endorsed project, organised its 2021 Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) annual meeting on 28th January 2022 by online platform. Wenju Cai and Sonya Legg, co-chairs of CLIVAR SSG, and Antonietta Capotondi, co-chair of CLIVAR PRP attended the meeting.

A new PICES Working Group on Climate Extremes and Coastal Impacts in the Pacific is under development to better understand the physical drivers and assess the predictability of extreme events and to identify indicators for the socioeconomic impacts from climate extremes.

The CLIVAR Pacific Region Panel (PRP) held a telecon on 19 November 2021 mainly to discuss candidates for the PRP membership and the options for a possible PRP in-person meeting. Nine PRP members attended the telecon.

The FUTURE/POC Topic Session on “Predictions of extreme events in the North Pacific and their incorporation into management strategies” was successfully organized on 27 October 2021, during the 2021 PICES Annual Meeting (virtual). The session was co-sponsored by CLIVAR.
