Workshop on "Interaction among the tropical basins: observations and simulation"
Workshop on "Interaction among the tropical basins: observations and simulation”
Date: June 22 and 23, 2024
Venue: Science Building B102, Yonsei University, 50 Yonsei-ro, Seodamun-gu, Seoul, 03722, South Korea
The interaction among the tropical basins has increasingly been recognized as a key to understanding climate variability on interannual to decadal timescales. It not only sheds light on climate phenomena like El Niño but also holds promise in enhancing predictive capabilities with extended lead times.
The CLIVAR Research Focus on Tropical Basin Interaction (TBI) will be organizing a workshop in Seoul, South Korea, on June 22 and 23, 2024, to bring together experts in the field and to provide a forum for presenting the latest research on TBI in the field, in particular on the following four topics:
1) Climate model simulations exploring TBI, such as pacemaker experiments.
2) Conceptual and theoretical models elucidating TBI dynamics.
3) Observational studies shedding light on TBI mechanisms.
4) Insights derived from paleo proxies offering historical perspectives on TBI.
The workshop venue1 will be Yonsei University, which is located conveniently in central Seoul. The dates are chosen such that workshop participants can attend the subsequent AOGS Annual Meeting in Pyeongchang. The workshop will be held in person, with online components. Limited travel support is available for in-person participation, with priority given to early career researchers and participants from developing countries.
To register for this workshop, please complete this form by 20 April, 2024. Participation is limited to 40 people.

1The workshop venue (Science Building) is located approximately 1 km from Shinchon subway station (Line 2, the green line). If you prefer to stay closer to the Venue, there are hotels available near either Shinchon subway station or Hongik University subway station (also on Line 2). Alternatively, there are plenty of accommodation options near Cityhall or Euljiro 1-ga subway stations that provide convenient access to Yonsei University via Line 2, as well as easy access to the heart of Seoul. The Seoul main train station is also located near Cityhall. From Seoul main train station, you can take a high-speed train (KTX-EUM) to PyeongChang (~1h 40min) where the AOGS Annual Meeting is held.
