2026 PRP Workshop on PATAC and TP BGC-PIs - Tokyo, Japan

Thursday, May 21, 2026 to Friday, May 22, 2026
Event City:
Tokyo, Japan
Event Description:

Dates: 21-22 May 2026

Venue: University of Tokyo, Hongo Campus

The CLIVAR Pacific Region Panel is organising a Workshop on Pacific Atmospheric Teleconnections in a Warming Climate (PATAC) and Tropical Pacific BGC-Physical Interactions (BGC-PI) to be held at the University of Tokyo, Hongo Campus, Japan, on Thursday 21 May and Friday 22 May 2026, before the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) 2026 Meeting.

Agenda:
  •  ½ day – PRP meeting (hybrid format, for PRP members only)
  •  1 ½ day – PATAC & BGC-PI Workshops (running in parallel for PRP and workgroup members)
This two-day workshop brings together members of the Pacific Regional Panel (PRP) and the PATAC and BGC-PI working groups to advance research on Pacific atmospheric teleconnections in a warming climate and on biogeochemical–physical interactions. The programme includes a half-day PRP coordination meeting in hybrid format, followed by 1½ days of parallel PATAC and BGC-PI workshops. These workshops will feature invited talks from leading experts, discussions on pressing issues and emerging science, and hands-on sessions (writing and reporting back) aimed at synthesising current understanding of biogeochemical–physical interactions and to advance current writing activities in the PATAC working group. Invited talks will be open to all CLIVAR members, while discussions and hands-on sessions will prioritise in-person participation of the working group members, with selected activities offered in hybrid format through virtual breakout groups to support joint work on shared documents and research priorities.

For those attending the meeting in person, please refer to the pdf for the venue location.

We encourage those attending the workshop to submit an abstract and attend the JpGU-AGU Joint meeting to be held the week after the workshop, from 24 to 29 May 2026. See details here.
