[Call for abstracts] Future Directions in Basin and Global High-resolution Ocean Modelling

Future Directions in Basin and Global High-resolution Ocean Modelling

Ocean models are an integral part of today’s ocean and climate research. Advances in high-resolution ocean modelling provide opportunities but also challenges for simulating the ocean climate system, particularly with the growing availability of observational measures.

A CLIVAR endorsed workshop addressing challenges and future directions in high-resolution ocean modelling will be held online, on September 29 - October 1, 2021 hosted by GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel.

The focus is on 4 themes:

* How robust is the decadal variability among hindcasts as compared to observational measures?

* How do modelling strategies affect model drift and robustness of results?

* Are there additional critical processes to include (submesoscale, tides, gravity waves)?

* How important is coupling to separate internal variability from external, anthropogenic forcing?

The call for abstracts (Deadline 27 August 2021) is now open at https://events.geomar.de/~OM2021
