6th Organising Committee Telecon for the CLIVAR-GOOS Workshop

The 6th Organising Committee telecon for CLIVAR-GOOS workshop was organized on December 16, 2021, with the participation of Weidong Yu (Co-chair, OOPC), Edem Mahu (Co-chair, invited), Nick Hardman-Mountford (IORP), Maria Paz Chidichimo (ARP), Ivonne Montes (PRP), Enrique Cruchister (OMDP), Hindumathi Palanisamy (GSOP & WCRP Secretariat), and Jing Li from ICPO. The meeting focused on the discussion of the workshop agenda, with an emphasis on Day 1: Societal and scientific drivers of regional ocean observing systems. A basic structure of the opening session, plenary session and breakout session on Day 1 was proposed. Major uptakes from the discussions include:
  1. An opening session presented by high level speakers was proposed by Nick HM, with some possible speakers identified.
  2. Following up to the discussion in last telecon, two global perspective talks have been agreed: one is on the UN Ocean Decade, to invite a speaker from GOOS to talk about coastal focused actions of the Decade; another one is a joint presentation highlighting the outcomes of the decadal reviews in the Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean and Atlantic Ocean, led/participated in by CLIVAR Community.
  3. Flash talks from developing countries will be arranged after the two global perspective talks. Possible countries/organisations/speakers were discussed around different ocean basins.
  4. The breakout session in the afternoon will be arranged by three basins, and questions for discussion will incorporate the needs identified by the plenary talks.
  5. The next step is to further identify speakers and topics and finalize the agenda.
  6. The next telecon will be organised in January 2022.
