Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences

The Visiting Fellows program invites scientists ranging from recent doctoral graduates, to those on sabbattical, to senior scientists from many disciplines to continue their education in research positions that may foster interdisciplinary training and exposure to scientific assessments and policy research. These positions are open to scientists with research interests in the areas of the CIRES research themes.

Up to 12 awards may be made to Ph.D. scientists at all levels (Visiting Fellowships) and faculty planning sabbatical leave (Sabbatical Fellowships). Postdoctoral fellowships are awarded for one year; a second year may be available from other funding sources. Sabbatical fellowships are awarded for up to one year. Selections for this Visiting Fellows Program are based in part on the likelihood of interactions between the Visiting Fellows and the scientists at CIRES and the degree to which both parties will benefit from the exchange of new ideas. To further this goal, priority is given to candidates with research experience at institutions outside the Boulder scientific community.

Voss Environmental Fellows Programme

(Undergraduate)

The Voss Environmental Fellows Program is a different kind of independent research experience, introducing undergraduate researchers to the dynamic interface between environmental scholarship, policy, and practice. Student-faculty-practitioner teams develop research projects to meet shared objectives – directing scientific discovery into channels that will inform current and future management choices.

The Voss Environmental Fellows Program is made possible through the generous support of the Henry David Thoreau Foundation and Peter and Pamela Voss. Additional support has been provided by Brown University’s Swearer Center, the Woods Lectureship Fund, the Center for Environmental Studies and Environmental Change Initiative.

The Columbia Science Fellows Programme

With the creation of Frontiers of Science, a new postdoctoral position was established for young scientists interested in developing their skills in both research and science education. These "Science Fellows" are instrumental in developing new course material. However, Science Fellow positions are not purely teaching appointments. Because one goal of Frontiers of Science is to expose students to the way scientists work and think, Science Fellows actively pursue their own research projects within their department. Yes, being a Science Fellow can certainly make for a busy life, but if you love to teach and don't want to give up research, this may be the perfect position for you!
