PSMSL 80th Anniversary Workshop on Sea Level Science
The Permanent Service for Mean Sea Level (PSMSL) will host a workshop on major research topics in sea level science in order to commemorate its 80th anniversary. The workshop will be held at the University of Liverpool's Victoria Gallery & Museum on October 28 and 29. The workshop is open to all, but free registration is required by 16 September.

One of the highlights of the meeting will be three hour-long talks reviewing aspects of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Fifth Assessment Report (Working Group I). The workshop will have presentations covering many aspects of regional variability in sea level, with ample time at the end of talks and the sessions for discussion. In addition, we encourage participants to contribute posters for wider dialogue. A preliminary schedule is available.
In addition, Prof. Andy Plater has agreed to run a field trip on Sunday 27 October, leaving mid-morning. We will visit the saltmarshes of the Dee estuary to consider the ability of these areas to record long-term sea-level change. In addition, the field site will also provide an excellent setting for discussing the range of socio-economic impacts consequent upon rising sea levels.
This workshop precedes the Global Sea Level Observing System (GLOSS) Group of Experts (GE) meeting being held on Wednesday, 30 Oct, to Friday, 1 Nov. Anyone wishing to attend the GE meeting should make their wishes known to the GLOSS Technical Secretary, Dr. Thorkild Aarup, who is responsible for the meeting agenda and attendance list.
