Latin America and Caribbean Conferece
Kick Off Meeting of the WCRP Latin American and Caribbean Conference
Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Date: 4th - 5th March, 2013
Hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology
The Joint Scientific Committee (JSC-29) for WCRP has endorsed the organization of the WCRP Conference on Climate and Society for Latin America and the Caribbean, to be held in Montevideo Uruguay, 2014. The conference is aimed at facilitating a regional discussion about future WCRP activities in the Latin American and Caribbean regions.
VAMOS, with full support and engagement of CLIVAR, GEWEX and the JSC, has taken the lead in establishing the Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) for the conference, which is co-chaired by Drs. Celeste Saulo (UBA, Argentina) and Walter Baethgen (IRI, Uruguay).
The major objectives of the kick off meeting (March 2013) for the SSC are:
(a) to define the overall goal of the WCRP Conference on Climate and Society for Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as its specific objectives;
(b) to discuss and define the expected conference outputs and outcomes;
(c) to discuss and define the role of participants, climate scientists, adaptation policy-makers, and users at regional, national and local levels;
(d) to identify donors and development partners interested in funding and supporting improvements in climate science research in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as targeted participants from the climate science, policy-makers, and end-user sectors.
The SSC co-chairs expect to get a very clear timeline of activities to be accomplished in the following year for the success of the conference.
