IPCC Call for Expert Reviewers

IPCC AR5 Working Groups II and III Climate Change 2014

IPCC observer organizations are now invited to encourage additional experts to participate as Expert Reviewers in the WGII and WGIII AR5 Government and Expert Review.

IPCC Working Group II AR5 Climate Change 2014: Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability

The Government and Expert Review of the Working Group II (WGII) review period runs from 28 March to 24 May 2013. Participation in the upcoming review of the WGII AR5 provides governments and experts the opportunity to comment on the second-order draft chapters of the report and the first-order drafts of its summary products: the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) and Technical Summary. The writing teams will evaluate all submitted comments at the WGII AR5 Fourth Lead Authors Meeting, to be held in Bled, Slovenia, 15-19 July 2013. Review Editors will ensure that all substantive comments receive due consideration. The WGII AR5 final draft will be distributed to governments in October 2013, and a WGII session to approve the SPM and accept the underlying report will take place in Yokohama, Japan, in March 2014.

The WGII Technical Support Unit has already undertaken steps to publicise the review within relevant scientific communities, and to provide a vehicle for active participation. To this end, a WGII AR5 Government and Expert Review pre-registration site was launched at 6:00 p.m. PST, 22 February 2013. If you are interested in becoming a reviewer or, as you prepare national review strategies, you determine that it benefits your efforts to inform prospective reviewers of the (pre-)registration system, please feel free to register at or forward the following URL and static credentials:

IPCC Working Group III AR5 Climate Change 2014: Mitigation of Climate Change

Following an IPCC call for nominations on 15 January 2010 to member governments and observer organizations for experts to participate in the WGIII AR5, Coordinating Lead Authors, Lead Authors and Review Editors were selected from the large number of nominations received by the WGIII Bureau and approved at the 41st Session of the IPCC Bureau in May 2010. The First Order Draft (FOD) of the WGIII contribution to AR5 was available for expert review from 20 July 2012 to 14 September 2012. The report has now been revised by the authors in response to comments received and the Second Order Draft (SOD) will undergo simultaneous review by governments and experts from 25 February to 22 April 2013.

In accordance with the decision by the Panel at its 35th Session in June 2012, IPCC observer organizations are now invited to encourage additional experts to participate as Expert Reviewers in the WGIII AR5 Government and Expert Review of the SOD. Please note that such experts provide reviews under their own name; they do not represent the observer organization.

A secure online registration process has been developed and can be accessed directly by prospective experts via the WGIII website: http://www.ipcc-wg3.de/ar5review/

If you have any questions about the process, please contact the IPCC Working Group III Technical Support Unit at <contact@ipcc-wg3.de>

As a reminder, the Government and Expert Review of the WGIII AR5 SOD ends and the Review site closes for input on 22 April 2013. Please be advised that late comments cannot be accepted.
