ESA Workshop

European Space Agency workshop on Ocean Surface Currents: Towards Future Mission Concepts

Location: ESA/ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands
Date: 6th - 8th May 2013
Registration Deadline: Friday 15th March 2013
Web link: http://congrexprojects.com/13c16/introduction

Measurements of ocean surface currents are fundamental to our understanding of ocean circulation at all time and space scales yet remain one of the last physical ocean variables to be directly measured by a space mission at high fidelity and mesoscale resolution. Such measurements are required to drive scientific understanding of ocean/atmosphere surface dynamics, constrain and validate ocean forecasting systems, support marine industries, and provide government agencies sufficient information to develop and monitor marine policies.

The objectives for the meeting are:

  1. To review and discuss science requirements for ocean surface current measurements;
  2. To review and discuss observational techniques for measuring ocean surface currents;
  3. To review and discuss future novel satellite mission concepts to measure ocean surface currents from space;
  4. To agree priorities and future directions.

Oral and Poster contributions are welcome on all aspects of ocean surface current measurements from space.  Those providing an innovative view of future priorities and techniques will be given preference at the meeting.

Authors are kindly invited to submit their abstract by using the online submission form available here.
