2013 AGU Ocean Science Section Honorees Announced

 

The following honorees have been selected by the AGU Ocean Sciences Section for 2013 and 2014 awards and lectures:

 

The 2013 Rachel Carson Lecture will be presented by Dr. Adina Paytan from University of California, Santa Cruz.  This lecture will be given in a scheduled session during the 2013 AGU Fall Meeting, held in San Francisco, California 8-­13 December.
 

The 2013 Early Career Awardee is Dr. Andrew Thompson from California Institute of Technology, Pasadena.  This award will be presented on Tuesday, 10 December at the Ocean Sciences Section luncheon during the 2013 AGU Fall Meeting.
 

The 2013 Ocean Sciences Awardee is Dr. Eric Lindstrom from NASA (Washington, D.C.).  This award will be presented on Tuesday, 10 December at the Ocean Sciences section luncheon during the 2013 AGU Fall Meeting.
 

The 2014 Sverdrup Lecture will be presented by Dr. Dennis Hansel from University of Miami, Miami.  This lecture will be given during a scheduled session at the 2014 Ocean Sciences Meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii, 23-28 February 2014.

 

Grand thanks are given to Peter Schlosser and the OS-Section Honors and Recognition Committee­ Debbie Hutchinson, Margie Mulholland, Martin Visbeck, Minhan Dai, and Robin Muench­for making these excellent selections in a timely way.

 

Thanks are also sent to the membership of the Ocean Sciences Section for providing a strong set of nominations to make this selection a very competitive process.

The 2013 class of AGU Fellows are scheduled to be selected and notified in mid-July.  The newly elected class of AGU Fellows will be publicly announced on 31 July, and will be presented on Wednesday 11 December during the Honors Tribute Ceremony at the Fall Meeting.  The OS-Section membership will be notified of the results.
