The Southern Ocean Observing System (SOOS)

A Southern Ocean Observing System (SOOS) planning workshop was held in Bremen, Germany on the 1-3 October 2007. See article in CLIVAR Exchanges 43 and the report from the meeting (SOOS interim report). Over the next few months the Expert Group will take a leading role in producing a draft of the plan for discussion at the next meeting of the Expert Group and the SOOS during the SCAR Science week (three half days on 5-7th of July) prior to the SCAR/IASC IPY Open Science Conference in St Petersburg (http://www.scar-iasc-ipy2008.org/). Since the focus of the meeting will be very much on the SOOS there will likely only be a short closed session on other Expert Group activities, followed by the bulk of the meeting working on the SOOS plan. This latter part will be open, but please let Mike Sparrow know if you wish to attend so we can ensure there are spaces available
