3. Accommodation
Matthew and Kevin have looked around for accommodation deals for the hotels near to UNSW see below. At this stage it is simplest if you could all make accommodation bookings direct to the hotel. If you seek any logistical support or help in the accommodation bookings, please liaise with Sophie Kober S.Kober@unsw.edu.au
Please see the document attached for details from Matthew and Kevin. Accommodation.
4. Travel information
There are flights from Melbourne to Sydney approximately every 15 minutes from about 06:00 to 22:00. Quantas and Virgin are two of the main carriers but there are others (e.g. OzJet?). A typical return fare should be about $400 AUS ($250 USD) but cheaper e-fares are available. If you need "some flexibility" then you will pay about $650 ASD ($410 USD).
Taxi from the airport to hotels in Coogee or to the UNSW campus at Randwick/Kensington should be about 20 or 25$AUS.
The following web-site has links to local transport information: http://www.transport.unsw.edu.au/
Campus maps can be found here: http://www.facilities.unsw.edu.au/maps/maps.html
Nationals of a large number of countries can apply for a tourist ETA VISA (the link provides the list of countries eligible for the ETA) for a maximum of 30 days.
Online applications cost $49 USD. There is a free on line eligibility check in case you want to check before you pay!
CONFUSINGLY : Important: changes to ETA eligibility from 27 October 2008
From 27 October 2008, European passport holders will have access to the new eVisitor service when applying online for authority to visit Australia instead of the old ETA visa.
To access the eVisitor service, for European passport holders, click here. It is strongly recommended that the passport be valid for at least 6 months.
Please check carefully about Australian customs regulations if you have any doubt about what you are bringing with you..
