Location: The workshop was held at the Multipurpose Room, Miami University Alumni Center (on the main campus of the University).

Meeting goals:

After more than 10 years of coordinated monsoon research efforts within the NAME and MESA programs, there is now a need, in the American monsoon research community, to establish new emerging challenges that address continued limitations in prediction skill of the American monsoon systems. The overarching goal of the 14th VAMOS Panel Meeting (VPM-14) is to renew the strong linkage between VAMOS science programs and research community and theoperational centers responsible for creating and disseminating forecasts of the N. and S. American monsoons. These linkages must be strong across all spatial and temporal scales in order to accelerate improvements in forecast skill and in order to maximize the interpretation and utility of forecasts. To do so, we have organized the VPM-14 meeting under 4 main themes:

1) Review of VAMOS programmatics with emphasis on CLIVAR?s new structure and imperatives; assess links to GEWEX and funding agencies

2) Reporting on activities and products at operational forecast centers

3) Update on CLIVAR Cross-cuts including extremes and capacity building

4) Discussion on existing and newly proposed research programs, including a 0.5 day joint session with the CLIVAR Atlantic Panel

The outcome of this meeting will be a report which articulates progress on current VAMOS activities and, perhaps more importantly, identifies new research priorities and programmatic milestones for VAMOS-endorsed programs.
