ICSU seeks nomination of young scientists (27 September 2006) 

ICSU is organizing a conference for young scientists that will allow them to discuss and address some of today’s important scientific challenges in a multidisciplinary and international environment. ICSU is now inviting all Members and Interdisciplinary Bodies to nominate and sponsor an outstanding young scientist to attend the conference, which will take place in Lindau in Germany from 4 to 6 April 2007. The Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change has been published (30 October 2006) 

The most comprehensive review ever carried out on the economics of climate change was published today.

The Review, which reports to the UK Prime Minister and Chancellor, was commissioned by the Chancellor in July last year. It has been carried out by Sir Nicholas Stern, Head of the Government Economic Service and former World Bank Chief Economist.

The WMO Greenhouse Gas Bulletin for 2005 has been published (24 November 2006) 

The Environment Division of WMO’s Atmospheric Research and Environment Programme has recently published the second of a series of WMO-GAW Annual Greenhouse Gas Bulletins. Each year, these bulletins will report the latest trends and atmospheric burdens of the most influential, long-lived greenhouse gases; carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O), as well as a summary of the contributions of the lesser gases. Call For Abstracts to IUGG XXIV Session on Monsoon System (03 January 2007) 

A Joint Session JMS011 (J11) on the Monsoon System, co-sponsored by IAMAS, IAPSO, IAHS and THORPEX, will be held at the XXIV IUGG Conference in Perugia, Italy. The session conveners, Guoxiong Wu, Bin Wang, Harry Hendon and Peter Webster are calling for abstracts to be submitted by 31 January 2007 through http://www.iugg2007perugia.it/. This session will provide a science forum for WCRP and THORPEX and some relevant research programs and allows scientists to interact more effectively.

The IPCC WG1 Summary for Policymakers has been published (09 February 2007) 

On 02 February 2007, the Working Group 1 (WG1) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment has published its Summary for Policymakers. The WG1 contribution describes progress in understanding of the human and natural drivers of climate change1, observed climate change, climate processes and attribution, and estimates of projected future climate change.

Call for articles for Exchanges 42 (29 March 2007) 

We would like to invite the CLIVAR community to submit papers to CLIVAR Exchanges for a special issue on Ocean Model Development and Validation. The guest editor will be Professor Peter Killworth. This edition will celebrate Peter's distinguished career and his major contributions to ocean modelling.

The deadline for submissions is Friday 18th May 2007 and papers should not exceed three pages including figures (see http://www.clivar.org/publications/exchanges/guidel.php for guidelines).

WCRP Joint Scientific Committee Meets to Review Progress and Future Directions (16 April 2007) 

The JSC meeting in Zanzibar, Tanzania, 26-30 March 2007, had the aim to determine future directions of WCRP development and to review progress in implementing the WCRP Strategic Framework 2005-2015. An 'Africa Day' had been arranged to invite local scientists to discussions on regional research needs. John Church wins Eureka Prize (22 August 2007) 

The Chair of the Joint Scientific Committee for WCRP, John Church, won the University of New South Wales Eureka Prize for Scientific Research . The Eureka Prize is awarded to Australian researchers for outstanding curiosity-driven scientific research.
