Travel Grants

Planning on attending a conference or want to go and work with people at a different institute but dont have the funds to get there. A travel grant may be wha tyou are looking for to help cover your trasport costs. We have put together a list of some travel grants available fo you to apply for.

This list is not exhaustive and will be updated. If you know of any other travel grants available that are not isted here please contact the ICPO office.

ASLO Student Travel Grants A limited number of travel awards will be available for students to defray the costs of registration and/or travel. In order to apply for a Student Travel Award, you must complete the Student Travel Award Application along with your conference registration.  In order for your Student Travel Award Application to be considered, it must be submitted at the same time your meeting registration, payment, and abstract are submitted and received in accordance with all meeting deadlines.  Any applicant must be a student member of any one of the three sponsoring societies and presenting at this meeting.  Additionally, students for consideration should not be a recipient of previous travel awards from any of the three sponsoring societies. The Challenger Society for Marine Science

Travel awards are available to assist graduate students to attend scientific conferences or participate in cruises and field work. Priority is given to graduate students who have had a paper or poster accepted for a recognised conference.

The Society cannot guarantee that an award will be made and this should not be assumed in applying for funding elsewhere.

The Society expects to offer 16 awards annually each of £250.

EMBO Short term fellowships

Short-Term Fellowships are intended for visits of 1 week up to 3 months. For applicants from laboratories outside the EMBC Member States the duration is fixed to 90 days.

The fellowships cover travel plus subsistence of the fellow but not of any dependents. The subsistence rate depends on the country being visited.

Canada Graduate Scholarships - Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements

This CGS-MSFSS supports high-calibre Canadian graduate students in building global linkages and international networks through the pursuit of exceptional research experiences abroad. By accessing international scientific research and training, CGS-MSFSS recipients will contribute to strengthening the potential for collaboration between Canadian universities and affiliated research institutions and universities, or other research institutions outside of Canada.

Supplements of up to $6,000 are available to active CGS Master’s, CGS Doctoral or eligible Vanier CGS holders to help offset the costs of undertaking research studies outside Canada for a defined period.

 
Sigma Xi

The program awards grants of up to $1,000 to students from all areas of the sciences and engineering. Designated funds from the National Academy of Sciences allow for grants of up to $5,000 for astronomy research and $2,500 for vision related research. Students use the funding to pay for travel expenses to and from a research site, or for purchase of non-standard laboratory equipment necessary to complete a specific research project.

While membership in Sigma Xi is not a requirement for applying for funding from the Grants-in-Aid of Research program, approximately 75% of funds are restricted for use by dues paying student members of Sigma Xi or students whose project advisor is a dues paying member of Sigma Xi. Students from any country are eligible to receive funding.

IAMONET-RU IAMONET-RU offers a wide range of grants (called "mobility flows"), starting from 1 month mobility flow up to to 34 months.Individual student mobility flows can cover either a part (f.e. six months for undergraduates, masters) or the totally of the curriculum required for obtaining a degree (at undergraduate, postgraduate or doctorate level). The duration of mobility varies from 6 to 34 months (for Doctorates).  
Science without boarders To require a Sandwich Doctorate scholarship, the candidate must submit the enrollment by two ways: contacting the Science without Borders’ partners in the destination country or contact the university/institutions that you wish to study. Students regularly enrolled, at least one year, in a doctorate course that attests unequivocal qualification to enjoy abroad the opportunity to further theoretical, collection and / or data processing or partial development of the experimental part of his thesis to be defended in Brazil. Trans-Antarctic Association The Trans-Antarctic Association provides financial grants up to a normal maximum of £1,500 in support of field work or travel to Antarctica, as well as equipment and other research activities directly related to Antarctica. The total amount of money available for distribution each year in any one year varies between £ 10,000 and £15,000 depending on how well the charity's investment portfolio has performed.  One third of the available funds are awarded to New Zealand nationals through the New Zealand Advisory Committee, with the remainder being awarded to nationals from Australia, South Africa and the UK.  Application must be received before the annual deadline (31st January) and are considered by the relevant advisory committees by the end of March.  The recommendations of the advisory committees are presented to the full committee of management of the TAA in April, prior to notification of the applicants and the release of funds to the successful. 31st January
