The following honorees have been selected by the AGU Ocean Sciences Section for 2013 and 2014 awards and lectures:

2014 Ocean Sciences Meeting 23-28 February 2014

AGU is pleased again to co-sponsor the 17th biennial Ocean Sciences Meeting in collaboration with the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), and The Oceanography Society (TOS). Become an International Ocean Expert at the NF-POGO Centre of Excellence in Observational Oceanography at the Alfred Wegener Institute 

 

Well-managed oceans and seas are pivotal to the future of humankind. We depend on the ocean for food, transportation, minerals and recreation. All maritime nations should participate in knowledge-based governance of the ocean. Education in marine science is key to secure the ocean as a sustainable resource.

The Nippon Foundation-POGO Centre of Excellence (NF-POGO CofE) provides world class provides world class education and training courses in the field of observational oceanography using the expertise and the infrastructure of the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research.

Professor Frans Berkhout named Interim Director of Future Earth 

 

The International Council for Science (ICSU), on behalf of the Science and Technology Alliance for Global Sustainability, has announced that Professor Frans Berkhout will be the Interim Director of Future Earth.

 

Professor Berkhout will lead the implementation of Future Earth – bringing existing and new research communities and stakeholders together to deliver solutions-oriented knowledge for global sustainability.
